My Coolest Project:
Operation Turkey Drop was started, by friends, in 2003 at my home church in Salem, VA, as an outreach to first responders who served the community. The project grew every year to provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal to all local fire/police departments and emergency room personnel who are on duty Thanksgiving Day—not only in Salem, but also in surrounding cities. When I lived in the area, I was overjoyed and gratified volunteering each year with my family as it became part of our Thanksgiving tradition.

About

Mary Margaret McDonald

Payroll/Human Resources Coordinator

MARY MARGARET MCDONALD is a native of Manassas, VA, a suburb of Washington, DC. She chose to stay close to home for college and attended Radford University in Radford, VA. While having initially declared nursing as her major, Mary Margaret quickly realized her mathematics courses were “fun” and that she could “easily” double major in mathematics and statistics. She graduated cum laude in 1988 as a member of the honors program.

After graduation, Mary Margaret relocated to Nashville, TN, and began her career in bookkeeping and accounting with the local Girl Scout Council. A volunteer position there led to a paid position, working in product sales (i.e., cookies). After moving back to Virginia, she served as the financial director for Giles County, VA, until moving to Roanoke, VA. There she worked at an accounting firm where she processed payroll for clients and served as the firm’s office manager. She followed family to Texas in 2015 and, with a passion for helping others and having a servant’s heart, she took a position in the accounting department of a local nonprofit. She joined HFS in 2019 and is thrilled to have returned to payroll and human resource duties.
