My Coolest Project:
I led the design team for the renovation of four existing buildings for the University of the Incarnate Word’s School of Osteopathic Medicine on the historic Hill Campus at Brooks City-Base. The school’s new administration building holds the distinction of being the site where President John F. Kennedy performed his last official act when he dedicated it on November 21, 1963, inspiring a new generation of space research. The renovation of that building and others on the existing campus has now become inspiration for a new generation of medical professionals continuing the trajectory launched by President Kennedy.

JOSEPH BIANCO graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1990 from Texas Tech University. He has over 25 years of experience in all facets of architectural design, including building assessments, master planning, programming, building code analysis, cost estimating, production of construction documents, and construction contract administration. Licensed to practice architecture in the states of Texas and Kansas, Joe’s diverse range of experience has taken him to various states across the country, including California, New Mexico, New York, Connecticut, and Texas, working on a variety of project types including commercial, medical, high-end residential, and educational buildings.

Joe’s career began in San Francisco, CA, where he worked as an architectural model maker before relocating to San Antonio via New Mexico, gaining experience working for several architectural and engineering firms along the way. In the last 15 years, Joe has been a partner in charge of design at his own ten-person firm in San Antonio. Despite the relatively small size of their firm, he was responsible for the management of several large design projects including the renovation of four historic buildings at Brooks City-Base into a new school of medicine for a local university. Other significant projects included a three-phase addition and renovation of a collegiate music school and fine arts complex; planning and designing of Division I athletic facilities; and several additions/renovations to local public schools.
