The VA initiate sought out to enhance patient experiences at Olin E. Teague VAMC. As part of this initiative, HFS led the design for converting semi-private, two-bed hospital rooms into private, single-bed ones on Building 204’s third and fourth floors. Furthermore, the design team undertook the review and design of related auxiliary functions of the nursing unit. This transformation turned into a modern, state-of-the-art patient care and nursing unit.

Post-construction, each floor will feature around 25,800 SF of renovated space. The renovation provides 28 new private patient rooms and private restrooms conforming to VA design standards. Additionally, amenities for staff include new nursing stations, a staff workroom, and storage.

The project encompassed full architectural space layout design, interior design, fire protection, mechanical, structural, electrical engineering, and commissioning. To ensure seamless operation, security and communication systems were integrated through 3D building information modeling (BIM).
