Our Story
The culture at this company is unlike any I have ever worked for. The senior leadership truly cares about their staff and all comments, thoughts, and opinions are recognized and heard.
Michele Torres founded HFS in 2003 after serving in the US Army as a Medical Service Corps Officer. As a health facility planner for nine years, Michele supported the design, construction, and renovation of new Army medical facilities worldwide with the Health Facility Planning Agency. After her departure, Michele knew she wanted to continue to support and enhance medical facilities for US soldiers.
That is when she decided to start HFS, transforming her military experience into a multimillion-dollar business. While HFS’s initial focus was to provide services through the US Army Corps of Engineers to the US Army Medical Command, we have diversified our capabilities and past performance to include infrastructure across federal, state, and local government and private sector projects alike.
Starting in a small at-home office when Michele was the sole employee, to expanding the corporate office with over 15 staff and as many as 60 field staff, HFS has now supported over 400 facilities within the continental United States and abroad. We have been named one of America’s fastest growing companies by Inc. magazine, as well as one of San Antonio’s Best Places to Work.
As a service-disabled veteran-owned and woman-owned small business, HFS makes it a point to support other small businesses. Additionally, keeping in line with HFS’s roots, we support our veterans through volunteer work with different non-profit organizations every year for HFS’s anniversary.
HFS Company offers comprehensive architecture, engineering, construction phase services, program and project management, and facility support services, helping our clients achieve tomorrow’s projects today.
Do the right thing even when no one is watching
Implement unique solutions to achieve proficiency and enhance value
Demonstrate a confident expectation of success
As of 16 March 2021, HFS has expanded to include the acquisition of McChesney & Bianco Architecture (MBA). By purchasing MBA, HFS is expanding its A-E services to include local and educational facilities. This is important to HFS as it grants us more occasions to service our home community where the corporate office is located, in San Antonio, in addition to other communities throughout the country.
Some of the projects that MBA has completed include Additions/Renovations at Garner Middle School and Arnold Elementary School, as well as designing Prassel Dormitory at Trinity University. MBA has also designed various buildings at the University of the Incarnate Word, including the School of Osteopathic Medicine, the Fine Arts Complex, Hillside Dormitory, the School of Nursing, and more.
