MARZIEH JAFARY is a PhD candidate at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of UTSA with a concentration on Sustainability and Energy Efficiency.

She has a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering and Master of Architecture and Environmental Design from her home country Iran. She started working at his father’s civil engineering company in 2007. From 2012 till 2013, before coming to the United Sates, she was an Architect with the responsibility of designing and developing residential projects.

After coming to the United States to purse her PhD, she started working at Texas Sustainable Energy Research Institute as a Graduate Research Assistant in August 2014. During the past 3 years as a PhD student at UTSA, she was involved in many voluntary positions including a science fair judge, solar panel tour guide on the UTSA’s campus, president of a student association and founder of virtual alumni association. She also received three scholarships for her excellence in research and received Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges Award as one of the outstanding campus leaders at UTSA. Last but not least, she achieved 3rd place in 3MT Research Competition at UTSA, which is explaining her research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

This summer she is serving as an Engineering Project Manager intern at HFS Company and trying to get the most out of it by learning and helping as much as she can. She is hopeful to graduate By May 2018.
